Principal's Message

Mr. Lopez
There are a number of reasons to be proud of the quality education being offered at Lincoln School, not the least of which is the underlying theme that all of our endeavors must have the students’ best interests in mind.  Our staff is conscientious and caring, providing students with experiences that promote positive attitudes in all areas of the curriculum.  Our teachers seek to improve students’ critical-thinking skills, thus fostering a greater appreciation for learning.  Also, they create a cooperative environment conducive to the sharing of ideas.  No matter the subject area or grade level, our teachers do a fine job of generating student interest, providing for individual differences, and encouraging only the best effort from all students.

Our teachers continue to be trained in how best to implement technology, and effective teaching strategies and practices used across the curriculum at all grade levels.  Each year, the staff participates in a wide range of workshops and conferences including: differentiated instruction, remediation strategies for struggling readers, balanced literacy, sheltered English instruction, team-teaching, social emotional learning, guided reading, curriculum standards, and the writing process.

Apart from our general classroom teachers, the school Media Specialist designs activities that allow students to demonstrate 21stcentury learning skills.  Our school nurse schedules numerous important programs focusing on: fire prevention, healthy diets, home emergencies, dental care, and bicycle safety.  We also have an excellent Art program, which exhibits student work throughout the year, and we boast an enthusiastic Band and Chorus. The Basic Skills math and reading programs are supported by effective educators utilizing sound strategies and techniques as well.

In addition, Lincoln School continues to hold its terrific, annual “Cultural Awareness Day” celebration that was selected by the State Department of Education to receive a “Best Practices” award.  The program provides students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge of various cultures represented in our school, the community, and around the world.  We also share in a rewarding “Senior Citizens Day” by having grandparents, guardians, and friends join us for breakfast, classroom visitations, and an original assembly program.

In cooperation with a hard-working PTO, we plan programs for parents and students throughout the year which include: High Touch, High Tech (a hands-on Science program for the entire student body); Book Fairs; Holiday Socials; Breakfast with Santa; Senior Citizens Day; Pre-K Story Hour; End-of-Year Family Picnic; Healthy Heart Day; and our Lincoln Day Breakfast.

In conclusion, we are fortunate to have a staff that is extremely dedicated to their profession, and who work tirelessly towards meeting the needs of their students and the district.  Add in a supportive parent community, and wonderful, receptive students, and you have the makings of a truly special school.
